Lou Malnati's Eyes Lincoln Avenue Location

Plans for the deep dish pizza staple are in the works for Lincoln and Montrose avenues.

A pizza empire is eyeing Lincoln Avenue for its newest location.

Lou Malnati's Pizzeria has been hailed as one of the best deep dish pizzas in the nation, and now that cheesy goodness could be just a few blocks away.

Owner Marc Malnati submitted a re-zoning request to Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th) for 4344 N. Lincoln Ave. The location near Montrose Avenue currently houses the Golden Angel pancake house.

With the owners of the breakfast spot looking to retire, Pawar said he's been fighting off banks and convenience chains in that location for a year.

A spokesperson from Lou Malnati's said a lease has not been signed, but owners hope to have one in place soon. Until then, representatives are meeting with the community to gauge support.

"If all goes well and we are able to wrap up the deal on the site, then we look forward to giving some 'TLC' to the building and serving a great neighborhood in the spring of 2014," Marketing and Sales Director Mindy Kaplan said in an email to Patch

Construction is planned for the fall if approved by the city council, according to zoning documents. The $1 million development is predicted to create 25-30 jobs.

The change in zoning stems from the addition of a liquor license. While some of Lou Malnati's 36 locations are carry out and delivery only, the Lincoln Avenue eatery would have a full service restaurant and bar.

Outdoor seating is also planned for the pizza place.
