Gather Partners with Local Farms for New Dishes, Changing Nightly

Gather, Lincoln Square’s contemporary American restaurant at 4539 N. Lincoln Ave., will be serving up produce from local farmers starting in June.

Gather is taking the farm-to-table concept to a whole new meaning. Over the summer, the restaurant will partner with a different farmer each month, creating dishes around their local produce. In June, Executive Chef Ken Carter will craft specials based on the seasonal produce of Spence Farm. The Fairbury-based farmers will deliver fresh ingredients to be featured in dishes that change nightly.   “Chicagoans are taking a greater interest in food that is not only thoughtfully prepared, but also sourced responsibly and grown locally,” owner David Breo said in a news release. Each month will culminate in a dinner where the farmers will join the chef and customers for a menu created entirely from the farm’s ingredients. The first Farmer’s …

Gather's Ken Carter Makes Zagat's '30 Under 30' List

One of the 30 rising stars in Chicago's culinary industry is serving Lincoln Square residents at Gather, a community food and wine restaurant.

A 30 is the best score a restaurant can get in the Zagat guide. But for Gather chef Ken Carter, his new lucky number might be 29. Just five months before his 30th birthday, Zagat named Carter one of the most “passionate and promising up-and-comers” in the city. On Monday, the restaurant guide released this year’s 30 under 30 of the food industry in Chicago. Carter joins pastry chefs, bartenders and other executive chefs from around the city. The 29-year-old Phoenix native was on a deadline with his 30th birthday coming Oct. 16. “It was a dream come true,” he said. “Before (Gather) happened, I stopped thinking about it.” Join Patch for more neighborhood news and follow us on Facebook and Twitter! 'Unwined' After Work with New Series from Gather

The new monthly event from Gather combines food and wine in a relaxed atmosphere.

Wine lovers in Lincoln Square can travel the world in a monthly series debuting in one of the neighborhood’s newest restaurants.  Gather, at 4539 N. Lincoln Ave., began family dinners in December, but now they’re focusing on relieving the stress of a long work day. The "UnWined Sessions" premiere Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and will feature four to five wines with food for $48.  Chef Ken Carter, formerly of Charlie Trotter’s, will customize dishes for the flavor profiles of each wine while staying true to the eatery’s contemporary American concept.  Session themes will change every month, with the first taking inspiration from the Ides of March. “The Wines of March” pulls from the wine and food of the Roman Empire.  Participants will sit in the …

Family Dinners Premiere at Gather on Sunday

Owner David Breo wants to start a family tradition in Lincoln Square with his new restaurant.

Gather, Lincoln Square’s newest restaurant, is taking on a new challenge less than two weeks after opening. The restaurant specializes in cocktails and wine with sharable plates, but is taking a different approach on Sundays with a family-style dinner. Owner David Breo, a Lincoln Square resident since 2009, said he was partly inspired by his 2-year-old daughter.  “Our hope is to reach into that memory of the Sunday dinner,” he said. “I think of the big tables with all kinds of food passed around and shared — and the nice part here is that no one has to clean up after that.”  Breo said the concept expands beyond families with small children; older kids and their parents are also welcome. “The food is going to be delicious but it’s going to …

'Gather' Aims for Contemporary, Neighborhood Feel

A menu that focuses on local ingredients with wine and craft cocktails will be the mainstay for chef Ken Carter, formerly of Charlie Trotter's.

Small flags and a cozy dining room mark the start of Lincoln Square’s newest restaurant. Gather, located at 4539 N. Lincoln Ave. will specialize in contemporary American food with a choice of more than 60 different wines.   Gather opens Tuesday, but will have a grand opening celebration on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. “When conceptualizing Gather, we wanted to create a place that would suit friends wanting to share killer food and drinks after an evening out, as well as couples looking to enjoy a nice dinner and a great bottle of wine without having to go downtown and drop a lot of cash,” said owner David Breo in a press release. The restaurant’s chef—Ken Carter—is formerly of the fine-dining staple Charlie Trotter’s that closed in August. He’s…

New Restaurant Coming to Former LM Bistro Location

Gather will open at 4539 North Lincoln next month, according to Chicago Magazine.

A new restaurant is set to open in the space previously occupied by LM Bistro in Lincoln Square. Gather is set to open in mid-December at 4539 North Lincoln, Chicago Magazine reports. The restaurant is the brainchild of David Breo, formerly of Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises and NoMI restaurant at the Park Hyatt Chicago.  Breo aims for a contemporary American menu with an average check of $33 per person.  “There is not going to be a lot of innovation—just really good food,” Breo told Chicago Magazine. Chef Ken Carter, previously of Charlie Trotter’s Cibo Matto, will run the kitchen.  The new restaurant comes four months after LM Bistro owners closed its doors to relocate in River North.
