Natick news - Nebraska news -- well at least they both start with the letter N. I said this before IRead More think everyone should not open any article on their local Patch unless they see the name of their community in it. They are trying to trick up with news. We see a headline and think - in my case - Natick - and it is not. NO NAME - NO CLICK! strange how we respond just as the terrorists desire us to. the media commemorates each incident asRead More if it were a new profit center to mine for every last click. whole populations now sit in fear of another 'something' about to happen, never again, fully safe like we were in the good old days of the cold war? once these bstrds hit us deep inside our own turf we have not become stronger, but rather 'hardened', emboldened in our delusions of ultimate superiority, no longer safe on our 'island of north america'. each of these events changes us all even imperceptably, forcing us to accept their motives, their ideals, their imam imposed concept of living. we act in unison, determined to show them we are not affected, yet that very demonstration reveals our inner need to respond, to re-affirm our own injury, each of those crowd-felt sympathies we all cling to, even if for the brief moment of our 'crowd'. be strong, and further, be alert, be conspicuous in manner in which you care for each other. shy not away from those who seek your death, but do not embrace them, as they fein no challenge to seek close to your demise.

@Pete - My tired eyes again! I agree - both parties do the fundraisers but when you have one partyRead More in control as in Crooked County and Chicago it essentially winds up Democratic fundraisers. And the symbiotic relationship between the Democratic machine and the public employee unions is another prescription for disaster.

They call him the 'real Governor of Illinois' which Michael J. Madigan basically has been. He hasRead More seen elected Governors come and go leaving the state of Illinois in shambles in every aspect. We're hoping he put off retirement because he didn't want his legacy to include being unable to right this ship. Whatever his agenda is let's hope he can somehow get us out of this mess and return the state to a credible standing .
Pete Speer April 17, 2014 at 09:24 am
The Madigoblin, as I prefer to call him is not the Wizard of Oz, more kike the Wizard of Ooze, HeRead More makes his real money dipping his wick in the property tax game which he rigged on behalf or the Cook County machine.and the Chicago boys by setting different property tax ratios for residential property and commercial property. Residences think they are getting a great deal, being assessed at 10% of the ephemeral "Estimated Market Value, Businesses bear the burden with a ratio of 25%. No other County is permitted multiple ratios. Our constitution requires that all property in the State have a ratio of 33 1/3%. To reach that level the state reviews recorded sales REGARDLESS OF PROPERTY TYPE and assigns a multiplier to reach the constitutional level For Cook County that thas hovered around 3.0, That multiplier is then assigned to all property to create the valuation against which you are taxed -- in effect 30% of the County estimated market value on residences; 75%, on businesses In order to get the valuations lowered, the appeal system must be used. You can see why businesses rush to the Madigan form and to the Alderman Burke firm and others to willingly pay big bucks to get their valuation lowered. There is more, but I have gone too long.
OFA organizer Eileen Soderstrom welcomes the audience at Monday's Organizing for Action Day of Action against Gun Violence at the Chicago Temple 77 W. Washington St.
Jordan S. Zoot April 15, 2014 at 04:46 pm
Too bad they aren't bright enough to distinguish between GUN violence and gang violence. The problemRead More isn't firearms...its ILLEGAL firearms in the hands of prohibited persons. Gun control doesn't work...Chicago ranks DEAD LAST in Federal prosecutions under existing firearm laws. Thats a good place to start the changes.
Grumpy Old Man April 16, 2014 at 09:20 am
There will never be a resolution of violence until we stop using the idiotic term "gunRead More violence" or "gun victim." or excuse it on the basis that it somehow just represents the tragedy of persons killed by "guns." The violence is committed by people, in the majority by gang bangers out to protect their drug dealing (these murders far surpass the news media's favorite topic - multiple murders by a single man in a single incident such as Newton, Columbine, Fort Hood, etc.). It is easy to avoid placing responsibility on these gang bangers by implying that if it wasn't for the gun they wouldn't be killing anyone. Of course if there were no guns no one would be killed by a gun but there are, and restrictions on legal ownership are ineffective against gang bangers. They don't bother to comply with them. You never hear the term knife violence and it wasn't used in reporting on the recent school incident in Pennsylvania. Until the focus is on the gang bangers and others who commit crimes, until we stop rationalizing violence on the so called economic conditions (the vast majority of blacks and Hispanics are not gang bangers, do not run around shooting or knifing people and are themselves the most frequent victims of these attacks) we will never resolve the problem of violence or bring it under control.

So, Aileen, I guess we have Ronnie Regan to blame for the failed "war on drugs"? HeRead More decided to go after marijuana but ignore the aids epidemic? A true humanitarian and a right wing icon. And what is ironic is we are closer today to beating aids than drugs.

If it were not for the sad impact on the lives of people pursued by out-of-control government, thisRead More scenario would be the biggest laugh in a long time. Connect these shennigans with 'for profit prisons' where governments (Federal and some State) contract out for incarceration and where the government has to pay an indemnity if it does not do its part to keep for profit prisons at 90% capacity.
Aileen Dodge April 17, 2014 at 09:21 am
I know there are a lot of people in this county that believe Ronnie Regan was a really greatRead More president. I for one do not believe that. I believe he began the start of this country being sold to and then made into a Corporation which is owned and run by the 2% wall street unrealistic, filthy rich, sub humans. He began this process and the Bush's continued and completed it. And though there are those that hate Obama. He is ineffectual as a president because he came into office not knowing what to do to actually stop what had been set in motion to happen. Had Hilary been elected into Office she would have stopped what was happening. Because she was there when her husband was President and she knew what was going on. She would have known what action to take to either stop or at least slow the process of the sale of this county. But it has happened. And Obama was a wonderful puppet voted into office. He has served his purpose well. The County is now a Corporation. And the next time Wall Street falls this country will be forced into the One World Financial Market of the EURO!!! Mark my words it is the way of all Corporations. My motto is this: It is NEVER a BAD day for a REVOLUTION!!!! So people STOP hitting the SNOOZE button and WTF up!!!!!

Here's the story I posted this morning and was censored by PATCH Pistol Turned to ‘SubmachineRead More Gun’ By Clueless Media April 15, 2014 | Filed under Constitutional Issues, corruption,Culture,Culture Of Corruption,Democrats,Dumb Criminals,Gun control,Liberals,Media | Posted by Warner Todd Huston Once again we get proof of how mindless and clueless the media is, how they don’t fact check, but just mindlessly pass on each other’s bad work ad infinitum. This time it happened with a story about a criminal who used a .22 caliber pistol in a crime but one clueless reporter turned it into a “submachine gun” and hundreds of his mindless colleagues followed suit passing the lie on and on and on. Clueless reporter Darryl Holliday of DNAinfo Chicago, a website that caters to local news, reported on an incident that was perpetrated by a man from West Garfield Park who began wielding a .22 caliber pistol in a grocery store because he didn’t want to pay the 22 cents tax on a bottle of pop he was trying to buy. Holliday “reported” that the crook “pulled an Intratec submachine gun out of a Gucci satchel,” and in the next paragraph again claimed the piece was a “submachine gun” saying, “Officers arrived on the scene shortly after to find Shelton’s Gucci bag open on the counter as well as 15 bullets in the blue steel .22-caliber submachine gun–eight live rounds in one magazine, five in another and one in the chamber, according to court documents.” Of course, it is clear that reporter Holliday doesn’t have any idea what he’s rambling on about. The .22 caliber Intratec pistol is not a “submachine gun. It is a semi-automatic pistol like every other semi-auto pistol. A submachine gun is an automatic rifle that uses pistol cartridges instead of larger ones such as rifle or armor piercing cartridges. A one-hand-held version of this weapon is called a “machine pistol,” but it is also fully automatic. The Intratec pistol used in this crime is not a fully automatic weapon, however. It is semi-auto-meaning it fires only once when the trigger is pulled. It does not expel a stream of bullets like a fully automatic weapon does. Yet, as soon as this story went live on April 13, dozens of other so-called news outlets took up the claim that this dolt used a “submachine gun” in his crime. All one need do is put “Nahshon Shelton submachine gun” in any search engine and dozens of so-called news stories will be revealed saying that the criminal used a “submachine gun.” It all just shows that whenever you see a report on guns in the Old Media establishment, you should not trust it. They don’t even know the proper definitions of firearms terms and from there all their “facts” are suspect.

It can be annoying to get news from areas other than your own, however the new Patch is doing things differently, and show no evidence of changing it back.....my best advice would be to ignore stories not in your area, and to write your editor directly, and share your comments with those who can make changes.

Oh and in one year our property taxes more than doubled--and that's not even including what theRead More mayor plans to do with increasing property taxes. This state is run by corrupt politicians and union leaders. Their ineptitude has what has led us to this fiscal nightmare and they continue to look the other way and just expect to have the residents pay even more to solve the problems of their own making..
Grumpy Old Man April 15, 2014 at 01:33 pm
@Southeast Side - Well, if all of the middle class has moved out of Chicago it will be othersRead More (wealthy, poor, working class) who are paying the tax. If your argument is that there still is a middle class in Chicago and that they will pay the tax, say it. As it is your response just sounds like a left wing shill. Other than your last comment, I happen to think your post has a point because I think implicit in your response is that there is still a significant middle class in Chicago (but if taxes keep going up the comment in the main article could be a self fulfilling prophesy - maybe not - there is some controversy over whether millionaires would leave the state if the 3% additional surtax was imposed on earnings above $1 million).
Grumpy Old Man April 15, 2014 at 01:57 pm
Frankly, I am not so sure that Zorn doesn't have a point. The ever escalating property taxes affectRead More all of us and probably in excess of what we would pay in terms of increased property taxes (or rent increases due to them). However, it would require some trade off - like a reduced property tax level than currently in place and a single taxing entity for Chicago - the council to set all taxes in the City including taxes for CPS. I don't have the answer but I wouldn't mind some reduction in services and something done abut the constitutional provision that these pensions can't be touched regardless of how economic downturns affect the ability of the investments in which the funds are deposited to maintain a pension amount at a given level.

So If it doesn't say Natick, then we all know it is not LOCAL to the Natick Patch. The less clicks these Patch sites get, the fewer advertisers they will get and then perhaps they will realize if we want sensational news from across the country we'd go back to Patch's former owners AOL and the HuffPost! Those here from other Patch sites - I think you should do the same only click on articles that mention your community's name. No name. No click!

I have neighbors that been on my street for 25-40 years that are being forced out of their homes because the city took away their long term resident discount and shrank their senior citizen discount 85%. All due to union pensions. Are you proud that this is the worst state in the country fiscally because of union debt. Debt procured by union backed politicians. Do you think your neighbors, friends and family that aren't union members are proud of you for the debt they pay? What do you think non-union people say about you behind your back? Jim do you worry that the city or state will go bankrupt and you will get nothing because your union won't compromise? Anyway, thank you for displaying your pride, we all know what comes after it.
