CPS Closing Schools Monday

The decision came late Sunday afternoon after the district was criticized by the union for planning to hold classes.

The Chicago Public Schools decided late Sunday afternoon to join many of their suburban counterparts in keeping kids home from school Monday because of the extreme cold forecast for the region, according to the Chicago Tribune.

A news release from the district cited the "dangerously cold" conditions that students would need to endure to get to and from school, the article says. The teachers union had earlier criticized the district for planning to keep the schools open for the day.
