Monday Is the Last Day To Buy A Chicago City Sticker Online

We speak from experience. The City of Chicago does not fool around when it comes to booting your car because you didn’t purchase a city vehicle sticker.

Monday, June 30, 2014, marks the last day in the 100-year history of the July 1 to June 30 city sticker renewal cycle. Starting 2014-15,  the city will transition to year-round vehicular sticker sales. It also marks the last June 1 to July 15 rush period when 1.3 million vehicles are all switched over at the same time.

Residents and businesses that haven’t purchased stickers for their cars, SUVs, trucks and motorcycles, can go online and renew their Chicago vehicular stickers and parking permits through EZ-PAY until 11:59 p.m. Monday, June 30.

Seniors age 65 and older will remain on the July 1-June 30 vehicular sticker renewal cyle.

Starting July 1, the traditional grace period is in effect through July 15, after which those vehicles not displaying a Chicago city sticker will be ticketed.

Also, available this year only, motorists can buy city stickers on a monthly prorated basis until the transition to year-round vehicular sticker sales system is completed.

Vehicular city sticker renewal will be staggered six months after motorists renew their state vehicle licenses.

Prorated monthly rates vary according to the vehicle’s size and make. For example, the monthly prorated rate for Chevy Cruze or Honda Civic is $7.16, as opposed to the larger Hummer or Ford Bronco, for which the prorated monthly rate is $11.38.

The city provides a chart listing the various vehicle makes and models to calculate your monthly rate.

A $60 late fee ($30 for seniors 65 and older) will be applied to motorists who purchase their 2014 vehicular city sticker after July 16, except for newly purchased vehicles or new Chicago residents.

The ticket for failing to purchase a Chicago City Vehicle sticker is a minimum $200.
