Neighborhood Groups, Businesses Awarded for Green Initiatives

The Ravenswood Community Council will honor two organizations for making a difference in the area.

Two local groups are being recognized for their contributions to the sustainability movement in Ravenswood.

The North Center Neighbors and Skol Manufacturing will both receive the Raven Award, given to people who promote green initiatives in the neighborhood.

The Ravenswood Community Council, an economic development organization, chose the two groups for the award. The Northcenter Neighbors worked tirelessly to create a community garden on Montrose Avenue, and Skol Manufacturing has been fabricating components for green rooftops.

Representatives from the groups will receive their award at A Greener Ravenswood, a fundraiser to promote sustainability in the area.

Janet Davies of ABC 7 Chicago will host the festivities, set for May 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mrs. Murphy’s and Son’s Irish Bistro, 3905 N. Lincoln Ave. A $35 ticket gives participants a taste of unlimited drinks, hors d’oeuvres, live music and a silent auction. Proceeds will benefit greening projects in local schools and parks.
