Jury's Gets New Name, New Menu and More Drinks

Jury's on Lincoln Avenue is changing its name to Copper House, with a new menu and create-your-own burgers.

A Northcenter resident is trying to teach an old bar new tricks. Jury’s, just south of Montrose at 4337 N. Lincoln Avenue, is changing after 15 years.

Mike Grunfeld bought the bar just over a year ago. He went into it as a financial backer with a partner, but just six months in, found himself running the restaurant full-time.

The place went through several managers and Grunfeld described the food as inconsistent. In the last year, business at Jury’s was severely declining, he said.

The new owner tried to keep the atmosphere the same, but under the threat of closing, he decided to make a change.

Jury’s will officially become Copper House on Friday, with a new look and menu. The name reflects the restaurant’s copper door and bar top.

“The concept is still to be a neighborhood spot,” Grunfeld said. “I want families in to eat, but still be friendly for people to come in and hang out on the weekend.”

The restaurant has a new look, one that’s slowly been evolving over the last three months. Art from local photographer Tammy Perlmutter and paintings by Grunfeld’s daughter Sonja cover the walls.

“Before, this place had white table clothes and burgundy walls,” Grunfeld said. “You’d walk in and you wouldn’t know what kind of place you were walking into.”

Along with a new look, Copper House will have a new menu, focusing on hand-crafted sandwiches. Grunfeld gave chef Fernando Garcia free reign in developing new items and improving old ones.

The specialty is a brisket sandwich that “melts in your mouth” with a horseradish mayonnaise, Grunfeld said. Other sandwiches include a sombrero chicken with bacon, chihuahua cheese and guacamole, and The Hangover burger: fried egg, bacon, and cheddar cheese served on a bagel.

Create your own burgers and vegetarian options are also available.

The restaurant is hosting a grand opening weekend Friday through Sunday with live music, Super Bowl specials and trivia.
